The covered gun position offers an interesting focal point for a WWII fortification diorama. Its roofed layout gives the model a different appearance from an open gun emplacement and provides opportunities for detailing the weapon position and surrounding terrain.

Design and Diorama Setting

Build the Ringstand into a defensive landscape with earth banks, vegetation and a connecting access route.

Position it overlooking a coastal approach or alongside defensive obstacles. Figures, ammunition and equipment can help tell the story of a gun crew preparing its position.

Armament

This model represents a roofed position for a 5 cm KwK.

The gun is supplied separately, allowing you to choose the weapon for your scene. The Helmuth’s Strongholds range includes the 5 cm KwK 38 L/42 and the 5 cm KwK 39 L/60.

Painting and Weathering

Use subtle colour variations, washes and drybrushing to create the appearance of weathered concrete.

Add rain streaks, dirt deposits and vegetation around the base to blend the structure into the landscape. For a coastal scene, incorporate sand, sparse grass and weathered equipment.
